Talented Year 8 pupil Sara Ahmed’s poem entitled ‘Light’ wins the latest Young Writers’ Teen Poets competition. Young writers aged 11-18 years were invited to submit a poem for publication in the latest anthology ‘Chasing Shadows’-A Collection of Teen Poetry. One of the main aims of the competition was to raise awareness of creative writing within the classroom and promote the enjoyment of reading and writing.

Encouraged by her English teacher Mrs Austin; Sara submitted her poem ‘Light’ which she wrote back in October following National Poetry Day. A copy of the book which will include Sara’s winning poem will be sent to the British Library and further libraries across the UK and Republic of Ireland, providing a lasting record of Sara’s published work.

Sara’s achievement was acknowledged and shared with the rest of the school in an assembly. Head of Year 8; Mr Hince said-“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Sara on her fantastic achievement and would encourage any budding poets to read her wonderful piece of poetry”.
