University Taster Day

On Friday 15th April, thirty of our Year 9 students visited the University of Bedfordshire for a taster day which aimed to provide the students with a realistic insight into student life. The day was designed to promote aspiration and awareness of higher education and the benefits it can bring. The students were given a tour around the Modern and vibrant campus, enabling them to see what facilities the University has to offer including the state of the art on-site student accommodation. The students took part in various lectures and debates which were led by a team of skilled and experienced guidance advisers providing both students and staff with an invaluable experience.

Bleu Wildman said; “We began the day with an introduction exercise, sharing interesting facts about ourselves followed by a quiz about Universities and courses that are available such as ‘Dance with Geography’. We were given a tour of the whole university and visited places such as student Halls of Residence, a radio lounge, treehouse, gym and the library. We also got the chance to take part in a law session which was interactive and led to a debate. The trip has made me realise how many courses there are and the different paths I can take. I would recommend this trip to other years as before now I didn’t really know anything about University life”.

Following the trip Assistant Headteacher, Mr Forbes said; “Year 9 had a fantastic day out at The University of Bedfordshire. The students were fully engaged and enthused by the experience and I’m sure feel more informed about the opportunities available to them when they are considering the possibility of attending University in the future. I would like to thank Bedfordshire University for this opportunity and for looking after us so well. I’d also like to thank the Red ties that attended for impeccable behaviour and attitude on the trip”.
