School Direct Initial Teacher Training

This exciting school-based programme of Initial Teacher Training will be open to our third cohort of trainees from September 2015. Places will be available through Ashcroft High School, our lead school.

Training places are offered in the following subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Computer Science
  • Geography
  • History
  • Design Technology

Candidates will need to pay a course fee but may be eligible for bursaries and loans; details are available on the DfE website. The course fee is £9000 for most courses.

Successful trainees will be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE. We welcome applicants who have UK residency, GCSE Mathematics and English (or equivalent) at Grade C or above, and a degree – preferably First Class or Upper Second – in the subject they wish to teach, or in a closely related subject.

Applications must be made online through the UCAS Teacher Training site: and applicants should select Ashcroft High School.

The first round of applications (Apply 1) is now open.

Places in some subjects are also offered through the salaried School Direct route. See UCAS site for details. This route is for applicants with suitable experience. Successful trainees will be awarded QTS.

All offers of a place are “conditional” until Disclosure and Barring Service and qualification checks have been successfully completed, satisfactory references have been received and the National Skills Tests for Numeracy and Literacy have been passed. Overseas qualifications must be checked through UK NARIC before application.

Luton Futures is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Teaching practice placements will be available at Luton Futures partnership schools.
